Valle del Almanzora – This region encompasses two of the three Almanzora River areas, the Upper Almanzora Valley (alto Almanzora) and the Almanzora Valley. The third area, the lower or Bajo Almanzora, is in the Levante Almeriense comarca. The southern part of this comarca borders with the Los Filabres mountains.

Towns and villages include Albox, Arboleas, Zurgena, Olula del Rio, Macael, Cantoria and Taberno.The AlmanzoraValley is also home to Este Wine, a wonderful award winning wine produced at the Bodega de Este just outside the village of Lucar. Comarca Metropolitana de Almeria – This comarca covers Almeria City and the towns of Benahadux, Gador, Huercal de Almeria, Nijar, Pechina, Rioja, Santa Fe de Mondujar and Viator. It is also home to the amazing Cabo de Gata Natural Park.

Alpujarra Almeriense – This covers the Almeriense side of the Alpujarra mountains which stretch into the Granada province and border with the Sierra Nevada in the North and the Mediterranean Sea in the South. The main towns and villages of this comarca are Alhama de Murcia, Laujar de Andarax, Canjayar, Fondon, Alcolea and Olhanes.

Los Filabres – Tabernas – This comarca covers the Sierra de los Filabres, the lovely mountain range between the Upper Almanzora Valley and the Tabernas desert. It includes the towns and villages of Tabernas, Gergal, Uleila de Campo, Fiñana and Abla.

Levante Almeriense – This comarca covers the southern part of the province and borders with the region of Murcia. It includes towns and villages such as Antas, Huercal Overa, Bedar, Cuevas del Almanzora, Garrucha, Mojacar, Vera, Turre, Carboneras and Sorbas.

Sorbas is home to the Paraje Natural de Karst en Yesos with its amazing scenery and caves full of stalagmites and stalagtites. Mojacar, Carboneras, Vera and Garrucha are known for their beautiful beaches.

Comarca de los Velez – This comarca encompasses the towns of Chirivel, Maria and the historical towns of Velez Blanco and Velez Rubio, surrounded by mountains and olive trees.

Poniente Almeriense – Also known as the Campo de Dalias and the Mar de Plastico (Sea of Plastic), due to its plastic greenhouses used for market gardening, this is the south-western part of the Almeria province. This comarca covers the towns of Roquetas de Mar, Vicar, Adra, Berja, Dalias, El Ejido, Enix, Felix and La Mojonera.



 

                     Outdoor Adventures                     

Beaches:

Miles of BLUE FLAG beaches stretch east and west of the marina. It slopes gently into the sea. The beaches are well cared for, cleaned every day, and lifeguards are on duty during the high season. There are ample fresh water showers and toilets. Many sports are available on the beaches including windsurfing, kite-surfing, hang-gliding, beach volleyball, football, pedal boats and jet skis. It is also well equipped with beach bars. Wind-Surfing: Although wind-surfing and kite-surfing are fairly new sports in Almerimar, they are gaining in popularity and expert teachers are on hand when needed. Scuba Diving: The coast around Almerimar have crystalline waters and underwater scenery of special beauty. This makes Almerimar an ideal place to exercise scuba diving. A PADI diving school is available for those who may wish to learn this sport.

Horse riding:

Two horse-riding stables are available in Almerimar, both offer cross-country and beach rides. Instruction is available for those just beginning. During the high season there are many sporting events organized by the local council including football and beach volleyball tournaments and a pentathlon.

Angling:

The variety of fish caught locally is quite extensive and many an angler has a boat moored in the marina. People also fish from the beaches and breakwaters as well as the harbour walls. There is also a flourishing local fishing trade and significant quantities of tuna are caught every day in season.

Bird Watching:

The natural park of Punta Entinas, an expanse of salt marshland, is famous for the flamingos, ducks, and gulls that inhabit this area. Mountain Biking/Walking: The famous Alpujarras mountain range begins by Berja, less than a half-hour’s drive away from Almerimar.

Skiing/Snowboarding:

The snows of the Sierra Nevada, one of the best ski resorts in Europe is only a two hour drive from Almerimar.

Wind-Surfing:

Although wind-surfing and kite-surfing are fairly new sports in Almerimar, they are gaining in popularity and expert teachers are on hand when needed.
